This summer, I’ll travel locally
Considering the current situation, we will have to travel locally this summer. And many of you have decided to travel by bike this year.
With the right equipment, that’s possible and you may even find it… pleasant.
Whether you’re used to cycling or not, you will need to adapt the number of kilometers you’d like to cycle every day with your physical shape. A confirmed cyclist will certainly aim to ride for 100km each day. If you have less training, set your goal on 60km a day, at your own pace, in order to take pleasure in your bike trip. You can also plan to take a day or two to rest between each stopover so you can visit the place where you’re staying.
The first question you should ask yourself is whether you intend to sleep in a tent or if you prefer the confort of a real bedroom. Bivouacking means you’re free because you don’t have to book a place to stay unless you’d like to set up your tent in a touristic place.
If you prefer the conforts of a bed and breakfast or at someone’s place, this will mean a little more planning. You can still book your room a few nights in advance depending on your progress. There again, it will depend on the area, whether it attracts tourists or not.
The choice of the bike is not really an issue. We know many world travellers who travel with basic bikes so they can find any spare part locally if necessary, which is not the case with a top of the range model. However, the choice of the saddle may need for you to make a few tests as you’re going to spend quite some hours on it.
If you can afford it, you can travel by electric bike, which is a very confortable solution and doesn’t prevent you from pedalling. So you will still work out.
To carry your stuff, a single-wheel bike trailer is the best fellow traveller. It gets fixed behind the saddle post so it won’t bother you going downhill or in bends. You can easily carry all the stuff you need for 2 people for several weeks. You can even put the bike trailer from one bike to another in a few minutes.
The UNO 100 bike trailer (in steel) is the road model from the Aevon range. It is exclusively dedicated to a use on road and can carry up to 100L, 35kg.
The STD 100 bike trailer (in aluminium) is a cross country model because it is fitted with a shock absorber. It can carry up to 145L, 35kg in cross country mode or 45kg on roads.
The KIT L80 bike trailer (in aluminium) can also be used on cross country roads. It is foldable, which makes it the ideal partner if you need to take the train to your starting point. It can carry up to 25kg in cross country mode and 35kg on roads.
You just need to make your choice. The STD 100 trailer will be available mid August / beginning of September.
