Mexico with my trailer

23 January 2017 | By |

Bertrand has decided to go on a solo trip with his bike and his Aevon trailer STD 100.

The goal is to cycle from Mexico to Ushuaïa. To start, the road will go along the south coast of the Gulf of Mexico, the bay of Campeche (bahía de Campeche) and through different Sierras : of Villa Alta, of Miahuatlán.
1

After saving money for a few months Bertand prefers to travel alone, so as to be completely free and enjoy his bike trip the way he likes. First step : choosing the material. Each gram counts so you have to leave with only the essentials. To carry his stuff, Bertrand chose the Aevon trailer STD 100, large enough to carry clothes and bivouac stuff. With its shock absorber, the STD 100 trailer is able to follow the bike on all types of tracks.
bike travelling
Leaving for a bike trip of at least 2 years through countries with different climates requires to take the most technical gear.

First step, the city of Campeche.

After two days of more than 90km with wind, I decide to listen to my body and to rest for a day in Campeche, a beautiful city with a colonial atmosphere. It’s a fortified city from the 17th century. It is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and essentially lives from petrol and shrimps.

We will follow Bertrand’s adventures in the months to come. Don’t hesitate to check out his blog full of adventure and encounters.

I’m writing from Puerto Escondido, a beer in one hand, with the sound of the waves in the background. The sunset was beautiful, like the body board session I enjoyed this evening. Real holidays begin, chill, beach and surfing…;)

Travelling through New-Zealand and America

2 November 2016 | By |

Elodie and Cyril have launched the project ‘Retrouvailles’, a trip of about 3 years that will take them from New-Zealand to South America and then North America.

Our project ‘Retrouvailles’ is about coming back to essential values, like living with Man and Nature (versus the need for performance, materialism, consumption …) The goal is to make a break in our intense lives dominated by work and duties and meet ourselves, individually and as a couple, as well as meeting other people.
‘Retrouvailles’ means to us : find the time to live with essential values, find ourselves back and enjoy meeting people, make discoveries of other cultures and landscapes …

bike trip
Elodie and Cyril will travel by bike equipped with a KIT L80 trailer so they can carry up to 35kg of material and carry it on the plane as this trailer is completely foldable.

The bikes are MTB from Canyon with fully suspended frame in order to travel on all types of tracks. A little study enabled them to choose a new bike for Elodie and adapt both bikes so they can be as confortable as possible. Their goal is to live with 10€/day so they will bring a camping stove to be able to cook anywhere.
The preparation took months, an important step when the couple slowly detached itself from the material to keep only the absolutely necessary. They admit that this project brings them through different emotions : joy and excitement of course, but also fear and stress before leaving.

Don’t hesitate to support them before their departure in January 2017 through their website Retrouvailles.

Through Corsica with an Aevon trailer

24 October 2016 | By |

Mike and Pascale went for a trip through Corsica by bike so they could test their tandem and their Aevon trailer STD 100 before going to Asia.

1
Pascale and Mike were delighted :

“A real pleasure ! The tandem rides easily, it’s safe to go for a few days pulling a loaded trailer.

As for the Aevon trailer, you don’t feel it ! Loaded or not, the result is the same : light and flexible. Moreover, the hitch is high quality and enables you to make U-turns.”

During their Corsica holidays, the lovers cycled a lot !
In a few days, they travelled for 200km, stopped for sightseeing and hiking.

2
Mike and Pascale went from Bastia to Calvi on the coast.

First day : Centuri through the Cap Corse. The Cap Corse is a kind of peninsula of about 40km.
For this first day, they travelled for about 65km.

Second day : Farinole with 60km again and beautiful beaches of black sand.

The duo stopped at Calvi. Due to the heat, the desert of the Agriates was closed because of the risk of fire.

With 200km on the roads of Corsica, Mike and Pascale really tried the trailer :

“We mostly used back roads and traks and the stability is amazing. We feel no discomfort and the trailer doesn’t slow us.

The Aevon trailer is a useful and practical investment and we can’t wait to use it in Asia !”

Fourth day : Port en Bessin/Barfleur

Departure with a little rain that turns into a real shower in the afternoon !
Today I cycle through Villerville, Trouville, Deauville, Villers sur mer and its beautiful and hard hill on the thighs. Then I cycle along the landing beaches between St Aubin sur Mer and Port en Bessin.
I spend 6h30 on the bike for 96km with a peak of 56km/h with the Aevon trailer behind me.

Fifth day

It’s a very bad weather. My bike tips over with the trailer and my luggage falls off. The very strong wind follows me all day for 100km.
I cycle along the landing beaches and all these villages full of History. At 5pm I’m glad to reach my hotel room.
Tomorrow I change direction and shouldn’t have the same wind but … you never know !

The STD 100 in Australia

14 August 2015 | By |

Les, in Australia, has decided to use an STD 100 trailer for his everyday use. It is even going to replace his car !

I have assembled it and it looks fantastic. The quality is very high, and I’m impressed with the manufacture of all the components, especially the suspension. Nice. No way I could have manufactured one myself with all the specialised aluminium components.

The bike trailer is going to replace my car. I’m travelling with my two girls to school and home every day. I will carry all our school bags, computers, lunch boxes, jumpers and gym bags in the trailer. Sometimes we leave school/work at different times of the afternoon. So I decided to make a link on the bike trailer to take my daughter’s bicycle as well. Here are the photos.

A Uno 100, from Asia to Canada

18 March 2014 | By |

Till and Claudine have travelled by bike for more than 8000km and 8 months in all.

They chose the Uno 100 trailer for its reliability and its easy handling. “The hitch under the seat of the bike enables us to make a U-turn easily, a main asset on all Aevon trailers !”

Their travels led them to South-East Asia and to West Canada and deeply changed them.

“From our travels, Claudine (my wife) and I would have so many things to say, so I will use the words of someone else to say that “travelling is a way of discovering yourself through the others“. The bike triggers sympathy, and it is even more true with a bike trailer (especially in Asia…)”

Claudine and Till are now planning their next trip in the USA, from Seattle to San Francisco, with their UNO 100.

Baïcchus Tour – the wine making adventure with an Aevon trailer

17 October 2013 | By |

Mickael has been travelling by bike and Aevon trailer for 7 months now. He continues to write about his adventures on his blog.

“To pick up where I left off: after a long wait for the sun on the Mont-Blanc and the opening of Col Petit St Bernard, I came back to Savoie by passing the Col of Saisies in  early June. A freezing and rainy day, I avoided to put the lens of my camera outside. Yet it is the longest part so far, more than 115 km. Not far from Albertville, I put my bike and my Aevon trailer aside for few days, so I was able to achieve some beautiful climbs on skis.”

Vallée de Valsarenche

“I hit the road on June 20th, in the direction of Bourg Saint Maurice. To avoid heavy traffic in the Tarentaise region, I cross the Beaufortain massif by the Cormet of Roselend, its dam and its pastures. Clouds and raindrops threaten my arrival in Beaufort. There is a certain freshness during the long rise of thirty kilometers and 1600 difference in altitude. The sun makes a few appearances for photos at the dam. But a strong and cool wind quickly rises to the pass, 8 km away. Time to enjoy the col, to chat with a few passersbies intrigued by my bike trailer and I continue my way to the valley Glacier Chapieux and Bourg Saint Maurice.”
“The Col du Petit St Bernard, 2188m. Very ancient route way in Italy and Rhone. A long climb to the stunning scenery and glorious sunshine. Snow is waiting for you at the col, dozens of meters of snow drifts are announced. A legend to attract tourists. As always, the long, slow climb up the col then gives way to an exhilarating descent between 50 and 60 km/h … the STD 100 trailer is on top!”

Kilometers travelled: 4983

September: after a long and grueling journey by boat and train (from Dubrovnik, Croatia to Bari, Italy) Michael arrived in Italy for a month of grape harvest.

“It is already night when I finally arrive, exhausted. I find a place to spend the nigth. A Sunday of rest, not too early. In the evening I arrive at the wine-growing estate, Stéfania Pepe greets me with a big smile, I feel immediately at ease. A beautiful view. The Sea in the East, the mountains in the West, hills of olive groves and vineyards in between. Ma che bello!

Almost a month has gone by. Time to pick some grapes, make a lot of “washing up” in the cellar and start off with a little Italian and then I have to hit the road by bike and trailer. I leave with a little apprehension, because I know with certainty that it will be more complicated due to fall and winter climate. “
