Tour de France with my Aevon Trailer

Alain has begun his Tour de France and will tell us each day about his route, equipped with his Aevon bike trailer.

First day : Thourotte/Blangy sur Bresle

Departure at 7.40am in the cold with a temperature of 0°C. But in the afternoon it went up to 20°C. This route was very pleasant and took me along the Oise : Gournay, Maignelay, Montigny, Breteuil.
I stopped for lunch at the 90th kilometer (at Poix-de-Picardie) and crossed a department to reach my destination around 4.30pm.
Today my ascent represented 1103 meters, with an average speed of 15,2km/h and I spent 8.16am on the bike.

Second day : Blangy-Sur-Bresle/St Valery en Caux

Departure around 8.00am in the direction of the Le Tréport along the Bresle.
Pleasant day but with a lot of steep hills (Dieppe, Hautot and many others.)
I cycled for 99km, with an average speed of 13,4km/h and spent 868m climbing.
I saw the bautiful villas of Mers and Dieppe, named the city of the four harbours.
Everything was fine with beautiful weather. Even the wind blew in the right way.

Lost in the Swell – A trip with an Aevon trailer

Ronan, Aurélien and Ewen are part of a team of daring surfers, fascinated by adventures in the open air. They have decided to go for a trip by bikes and surfs.
For this trip, they will travel with two Aevon bike trailers and fat-bikes to better stick to the beaches they intend to discover.

This trip is not their first. They already have a first experience on a desert island and a boat trip around the Salomon islands.

To carry tents, sleeping bags, wetsuits, clothes, surboards, a solar panel and cameras, they needed a trailer with a big loading capacity : the STD 100. ‘We chose this kind of trailer also because it has a single wheel. We replaced the rear wheel with a wheelbarrow wheel to better stick to the sand’. In all, the load reaches 45kg for each of the trailers, the maximum load recommended.

This autumn, the team tested the material in Aquitaine, from Soulac to Capbreton : 300km of beaches and three weeks of pedalling and surfing. It’s only next July that the ‘real’ trip will take place in a foreign and savage country which they chose to keep a secret for now : ‘We maintain the suspense to the end’.

Honeymoon with an STD 100

Vincent and Sarah, two doctors, decided to go to Istanbul by bike and trailer for their honeymoon (July 2015).
To fulfill their project of a journey by bike, Vincent and Sarah bought a trailer AEVON STD 100 to help them carry all their stuff.
This bike trailer’s bag is waterproof, which is essential for a bike trip.

Here are some extracts from Sarah’s logbook :

“Day 7 : from Saint-Jean de Losne to Besançon : 105 km. We went through the Doubs’ valley and reached Switzerland’s border faster than expected.
Day 12 : from Lörrach to Stühlingen : 105 km. We didn’t really intended to cycle for so many kilometers, but there is only a camping every 50km and we didn’t want to sleep under the stars so we had to cycle.
Day 19 : from Ingoldstadt to Bad Abbach : 70 km. The sun is back and the road is more and more beautiful !
Day 25 : from Schönbühel to Klosterneuburg, 10 km before Vienna : 98 km. This is it ! We reached our first goal : join a capital ! After facing the wind which slowed us, we arrived exhausted in the capital of Austria.
Day 30 : from Komaron to Budapest : 126 km. We broke the record !! !We speeded up because we wanted to arrive fast at this third capital, final destination of many bike travellers we met. […] Day 36 : from Kopacevo to Ilok: 85 km. Second and last day in Croatia, and we already regret leaving this welcoming country. All the people we met are extremely kind…

Day 37 : from Ilok to Surduk : 97 km. It’s the beginning of problems. Probably because of the rain… 3 bike falls, 1 broken rack, only 7 km in 2 hours, and all of this under the rain and thunder. Fortunately for us, anything can switch off our good mood, and we create a motto : « sing and keep smiling even if you meet difficulties »
Day 43 : from Brza to Simeonovo : 106 km. We broke the speed record with 62km/h, we travelled for more than 3000 km (3024 km exactly).

Day 51 : from Biser to Edirne : 76 km. […] Almost 3x months, 3634 km, a lot of love, and a big adventure.

The STD 100 around the lake of Constanz

Michel went on a bike trip around the lake of Constanz with his STD 100 trailer. He shares his story :
 
‘It’s natural to share my experience, having myself enjoyed from the experience of others on the internet. Back from a tour around the lake of Constanz, here are my impressions : I don’t feel the trailer on flat roads whether on the road or cross country. When I wanted to attach the bike the first time, I reduced the load : when the trailer is loaded over the top it tends to tip over. When it’s loaded at the level of the upper tube, it’s alright (25kg for the load, 8kg for the trailer and the bag).
 
Some websites tell you to travel lightly, others advise to limit the load up to half the weight of your body, I took note of these recommendations. At the first long hill, the only one in fact, I was happy to get to the top and to have reduced the load before that.
 
– To make it easier to attach the hitch, I put the bike and trailer on their side. It seemed easier than holding the bike in one hand and the trailer in the other.
 
– The shock absorber works perfectly, considering the sensations.
 
As I have seen elsewhere, don’t think you will bring more than in side bags but it’s definitely better in terms of balance.
As for the size, I could go up the stairs in a station (with some help) and I got on the boat.
If I had to do it again, I wouldn’t change a thing, no regrets, only pleasure and energy spent.
I’m looking into the next trips already.

A tour of Ibiza with an Aevon trailer

Enrique chose Ibiza for a short trip of 4 days with a few friends and his Aevon trailer this summer.

With an average of 60km per day and 1500m of hills, the trip was quite intense.

The STD 100 enables to carry up to 45kg of luggage on roads and 35kg on tracks. Fixed to your seat post, it follows you everywhere, on the road but also on challenging tracks.

“I cycled downhill at 69 km/h and it’s incredibly stable. Also in the toughest tracks, the others from the group were jealous of my trailer.

The funniest thing was one of my friends was carrying with him a Spanish guitar of 12 kg!! ”

Enrique already cycled through America with his STD 100 and intends to go on traveling by bike, so he is free to stop anywhere on his way.
